Industrial Visit to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited(BSNL)Palakkad

The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Ahalia school of Engineering and Technology organized industrial visit for students of S5 ECE to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited(BSNL), Palakkad on 12th October 2017. During the visit, the students were given an overview about the telephone exchange of BSNL and Main Distribution Frame (MDF). The Network Engineers of BSNL demonstrated the MDF interconnects and telecommunication wiring.

Industrial Visit to ITI Kanjikode

The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Ahalia school of Engineering and Technology organized industrial visit for students of S3 ECE to Indian Telecom Industries Limited, Kanjikode on 21.10.2017. During the visit, the project engineers have demonstrated the PCB manufacturing plant and students were introduced to various processes, such as materials and machineries involved in manufacturing and design of PCB. The students familiarized the different processes like drilling, laminating, U-V shining, electroplating etc.

Two Day Workshop on Rasbperry PI and Python

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, of Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology in association with the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) organized two day workshop on Raspberry Pi and Python on 06.10.2017 & 07.10.2017 . The chief guest of the workshop was Mr. Cibin C. Baby, Senior Project Engineer, Pantech ProEd Pvt Ltd, Cochin. Dr. B.G Vishnuram, Principal, Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology in his presidential address, he highlighted the evolution of electronics and how these types of workshops will enhance the students knowledge to do the engineering projects.

Excursion to Mahabalipuram and Puducherry

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Ahalia school of Engineering and Technology has organized an excursion in association with P.T.A for S6 ECE students to Mahabalipuram and Puducherry from 23/02/2017 to 26/02/2017. The excursion accompanied by Ms.Vijitha Khan, Asst.Professor ECE and Mr.Akhil, Asst.Professor - CSE along with two parents.


The department of ECE of ASET conducted a two day workshop on NI LABVIEW on 3rd and 4th of March 2017. Students of ECE and EEE departments attended the workshop. This function was aimed at providing a common platform for the Students to explore the usage of Virtual Instrumentation and Design aspects using simulation with the help of NI LABVIEW. It helped the participants to build real-time projects exploiting the benefit of these software tools.


The department of ECE, Ahalia School Of Engineering and Technology as a part of the CSS activity the students of eighth semester went for a visit to Marian Village, an old age home at Attapallam, Kanjikode on 22nd February 2017, Wednesday. They were accompanied by Mrs.Pooja Kannadas and Mr. Ajin R Nair, assistant professors of ECE department. Mr. Paulson , manager of Marian village gave a brief description about the old age home . Marian Village was set up by Marian Charities in 8 acres of land in Kerala, adjacent to the National Highway 47 in Pampampallam near Kanjikode midway between Palakkad and Coimbatore towns.

A two day workshop on ARDUINO - conducted on 15th and 16th of February

A two day workshop on ARDUINO was conducted by the department of ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION on 15th and 16th of February. The main objective of the workshop was to train the students with hands on experience to handle basic Embedded Systems and microcontrollers. The two day workshop was completed in 6 sessions.The laboratory sessions included working with Various peripherals including LED,Switches, Serial Port, Light Dependent resistance etc.

The second year(third semester) students of ECE, Mr. Shahir Mubarak. M and Ms. Greeshma Mohan have published a paper entitled Magnetic Semiconductors for the future of VLSI in International Journal of Science and Engineering Development Research (Volume 1 Issue 12, December -2016).They were guided by Mr. Ajin .A.S, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE.


The scheme of Compulsory Social Service came into effect in the colleges affiliated to the Calicut University with the aim of ensuring that no one without sufficient involvement in social service is given a degree.Accordingly the department of ECE has organized a visit to Ahalia heritage village and Ahalia Medicine Manufacturing Unit in Ahalia campus for S8 students on 20th December 2016. The students were accompanied by Ms.Akhila Krishnan,AP/ECE and Mr.Ajin R Nair ,AP/ECE

MoU with Regional Telecom Training Centre BSNL on 1st December 2016

The Department of ECE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Regional Telecom Training Centre (RTTC) Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for Training, Knowledge Enhancement, Projects and Research Work on 1st December 2016 in the valuable presence of Dr. Krishnakumar Kishor,Assistant Director , Academics , Dr. P.Sankaran Kutty, Director ASET and HOD and members of faculty of ECE Department. Mr.Shathick Ali H, Deputy General Manager and Principal, Regional Telecom Training Centre, BSNL, Trivandrum and Dr. B.G. Vishnu Ram, Principal, ASET, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. The objective of the MoU was to bridge the industry-institution cooperation in the areas of application of latest communication networking skills by the students for the requirements of the industry. The BSNL Regional Telecom Training Centre in association with the faculty members will imparting training to the engineering students to advancement their skills to meet the requirements of the telecom industry. In addition to the above,the BSNL would also arrange industrial visits and expert lectures on different areas which include mobile communication systems of GSM, 3G and CDMA, transmission systems in digital microwave, fiber optics, SDH, STM rings and data communication systems with Internet nodes, Wi-Fi equipments, IP MPLS VPN and Cisco routers. This MoU would also help the students in their career placements.

Importance of GATE Exam by ECE Dept. on 11th March

On 11th march 2016, Electronics and Communication Engineering department of Ahalia school of engineering and technology, Palakkad in association with IETE Palakkad organized a seminar Importance of GATE Exam, to create awareness about the GATE exam among the students. Mr. A.Saravana Kumaran Director, GATE forum, Coimbatore, was the resource person of session. Mr. Haridas C.K, founder chairman, IETE Palakkad delivered a special address to students about the competitive exams. The speaker briefed about the numerous opportunities like BSNL, ONGC, BAARC, HAL, NTPC and various other examinations and also gave a detailed overview of the features of GATE examination. He educated the students about the important dates related to exam such as the starting date for the registration of the GATE exam and last date of submission of application. An idea of cut off marks for clearing the GATE exam was also discussed.The students from ECE and EEE department attended the session.

The Department of ECE Association ERFINDERS in association with Coreel Technologies Bangalore organized a Two day workshop on Architecture Design and Modelling using Xilinx on 24rd & 25th FEBRUARY,2016. The workshop session was begun with Presidential address by Dr.P. Sankarankutty, Director. In his speech he highlighted that this kind of workshop will transform the students skills to the level of industry expectation.

Seminar on Research Opportunities and Challenges of Image Processing on 1st January 2016

The department of Electronics &Communication organizeda Seminar Research Opportunities and Challenges of Image Processing on 1stJanuary 2016at Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology. The session was handledby Dr. V.Balamurugan , Professor & Head, Department Of ECE. In this presentation the following six modules were covered, it includes Objectives, proposed techniques ,Research Opportunities, Challenges and applications of Image Processing.In this seminar various research opportunities in image processing was elaborated and Several Challenges were also discussed. The queries raised by the participants were retorted. The members of faculty of ECE and EEE department have attended.

Two days Faculty development Programme on MATLAB Training 18th & 19th Nov 2015

Ahaila school of Engineering and Technology Organized Two days Faculty development Programmeon MATLAB Training on 18th &19th Nov 2015 for ECE and EEE faculty members. The session proceeded with Mr. Chandrashekar, Application Engineer Coreel Technologies Bangalore. In his first day of training was about the fundamentals of MATLAB & SIMULINK. During the technical Session, he gave hands on training on the following topics Signal & Image Processing, Communication Systems, Control Systems, Neural networks , Fuzzy Systems, Script based programming techniques using MATLAB and code generator. The FDP was very useful for project guidance and as well as career development. Dr.V.Balamurugan proposed the vote of thanks.

IETE Students Forum (Students Chapter)

IETE Students Forum (Students Chapter) was inaugurated on 18th September 2015 by Mr.C.K.Haridas Founder Chairman IETE Palakkad and Govering Council Member IETE The Inauguration started with prayer song and Ms.Anjana IETE Coordinator welcomed the gathering. Dr.P.Sankarankutty (Director,ASET), In his presidential address emphasized the importance of professional forum. He also mentioned that the students should make use of this opportunity to develop their expertise. Mr.C.K.Haridas inaugurated IETE Students Forum the and insisted that students should continuously involve in various professional activities to improve their talents. Industrial Visit of S3 Students

The department of ECE organized two days industrial visit to KAYNES Technology Mysore from 11/9/2015 to 12/9/2015 for S3 ECE students. During the visit students observed the entire bandwidth of Electronic Manufacturing Services starting from Design Services thru Prototyping, Sourcing, Turnkey manufacturing and Support Services. The students visited End- to- End Solutions such as field of IT Peripherals, Industrial Controls, Telecom, Energy, Medical Electronics, Defense Electronics to leading Companies such as Analog Devices Inc., USA, Ansaldo Signal group of companies in USA/Europe, TVS Electronics Ltd., WIPRO, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., to name a few in the domestic market.

Wind Mill Visit of Second Year (S3) Students

The department of ECE has organized visit to wind mill in Ahalia campus for ECE S3 students on 7th September 2015 The Students were taken to all four sites of Ahalia Windmill Project. Dr. K.Sasi, Director, Ahalia Alternate Energy, has explained the working and Installation details to the students . He explained the future scopes of wind energy in order to meet the requirements of Industries. Students were able to understand the practical aspects of engineering concepts learned during the wind mill visit.The students are accompanied by Ms. Akila Krishnan, Asst. Professor ECE.        The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the AHALIA School of Engineering and Technology, Palakkad was formed in the year 2012 along with the start of the institution. The Electronics and Communication Engineering department provides an outstanding academic environment complimented by excellence in teaching. The department offers B. Tech degree. The department has a comprehensive syllabus on topics covering all the aspects of analog and digital electronics and various advanced communication techniques. The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India's leading recognised professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT. Founded in 1953, it serves more than 60,000 members through various centres, whose number is 65, spread all over India and abroad. The Institution provides leadership in Scientific and Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. Government of India has recognised IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence. The objectives of IETE focus on advancing electro-technology.            The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is well equipped with high end design and analysis laboratories which are used extensively by the students and faculty members for their curriculum and research activities.

Electronic Circuits LAB and DSP LAB

Electronic Circuits LAB consists of all types of active/passive components, measuring instruments, cathode ray oscilloscope, audio oscillators, function generators and various types of decade boxes. Experiments in the EC lab help the students to get exposure about the analog ICs performances, and applications, the fundamental design concepts & Characteristics related to Analog Electronic circuits using solid state devices such as diodes, BJTs and MOSFETs. It helps the students to design the given specification and requirements and also to check for the functionality.The purpose of DSP lab is to provide a basic understanding of elementary digital signal processing techniques through hardware and software experiments. The laboratory is well equipped with the state of the art software tools and hardware facilities required for real time signal processing and microcontroller based designs

Digital Communication and Microwave Lab

The purpose of communication laboratory is to reinforce basic knowledge of analog and digital modulation concepts using hardware implementations and software simulation tools. The experiments are designed in such a way to study the performance of various modulation schemes, multiplexing and spread spectrum techniques Communication lab includes digital and analog communication which helps the students to get a practical exposure in microwave theory, modulation techniques and sampling process etc. The laboratory is equipped with various microwave test benches, CRO (Digital Storage Oscilloscope).

Digital Electronics/ Microprocessor & Microcontroller LAB

The objective of this laboratory is to establish a strong understanding and to consolidate the basic principles of digital electronics by performing rigorous experiments from gate level to system level. The experimental set up helps the students to design and test digital circuits in hardware using FPGAs and simulation analysis through software tools. Microprocessor Laboratory is equipped with 8085,8086 microprocessors and various interfacing cards, 8051 flash microcontroller and various interfacing devices. The laboratory also caters to the microcontroller architectures, programming and interfacing techniques through hardware and software experiments.

The VLSI Circuit Design laboratory aims to produce trained professional manpower for the industry and to significantly contribute to research in the area of VLSI Design and Device Modeling. The VLSI Design Laboratory is to equip every student with VLSI Design with an in-depth understanding of Full-custom and Semi-custom IC Design The laboratory is equipped with the latest design tools and sophisticated hardware facilities.

Automated Rationing System

Automated Rationing system replaces the conventional ration card system by smart card. This replaces the manual work in public distribution system. The ration distribution system is automated by using RFID technology which is similar to the ATM. The user uses smart card to obtain the required materials from the system.The embedded controller is pre-programmed in such a way to perform the similar operation.

Magnetic Resonant Inductive Coupled Wireless Power Transmission

Wireless Electricity transmission is based on strong coupling between electromagnetic resonant objects to transfer energy wirelessly between them. This differs from other methods like simple induction microwaves or air ionization. The system consists of transmitters and receivers that contain magnetic loop antennas critically tuned to the same frequency. Due to operating in the electromagnetic near field, the receiving devices must be not more than about the quarter wavelength from the transmitter.

Automatic Railway Gate control using Microcontroller

This paper is about automatic railway gate at a level crossing replacing the gates operating by the gate keeper. It deals with two things firstly reduction of time for which the gate is being kept closed and secondly to provide safety to the road users by reducing the accidents. By employing the automatic railway gate control the arrival of the train is detected by the sensor placed near to the gate. Hence the time for which it is closed is less compared to manually operated gates and also reduces the human labour.

Inauguration of Electronics and Communication Engineering Association - ERFINDERS 2017

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Ahalia School Of Engineering and Technology inaugurated the association ERFINDERS on 05.10.2017 with a seminar on remote control on railway traction. Dr. B.G Vishnuram, Principal, Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology presided over the function and in his presidential address he highlighted the importance of electronics and recent applications and development electronics. The chief guest of the event was Mr. S Jayakrishnan, senior divisional electrical engineer, Southern Railway, Palakkad. In his inaugural address, he mentioned the significance of association in college and need for a successful life. He emphasized the necessity of practical knowledge electronics in the day to day life of an individual and electronics made the whole world into a global village. Also he presented a seminar on remote control on railway traction. In his seminar, the mentioned electric traction involves the use of electricity at all the stages of locomotive movement.

Dr.Krishna Kumar Kishor(Asst.Director,Academics,AHHKV) felicitated the function and insisted that students should continuously involve in various technical activities to improve their talents. The Chief guest Prof.Dr.K. Smiles Mascarenhas,(Dean Academic affairs, Coimbatore Institute of Engineering & Technology(CIET),Coimbatore delivered the inaugural address with a seminar on THE UNLIKELY SCIENTISTS which helped the students to understand more about the accomplishments of Scientists all over the world..
