One day National level Workshop on Open Source Embedded Platform -ARDUINO

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Ahalia School of Engineering And Technology has conducted a One day National level Workshop on “Open Source Embedded Platform ARDUINO” on 11th October 2017. It was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. G. Murugananth, HoD, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He emphasised the importance of the workshop to the participants.The sessions were handled by Mr. Arun Raj T, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. A general idea on open source hardware and software is presented followed by programming sessions using Arduino Microcontroller.

Industrial Visit to MILMA Palakkad Diary

The Electrical and Electronics department of Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) had organized one day industrial visit to the Kalleppully unit of MILMA on 7/2/2017. It was really a great opportunity to gain more knowledge about the industry as well as various electrical machineries being used there. The Palakkad Dairy plant was expanded from 9000 to 40,000 LPD during 1996 and further expanded to 1, 00,000 LPD during 1999-2000.

One Day Workshop on Programmable Logic Controller

The department of Electrical and Electronics engineering of Ahalia School of Engineering And Technology has conducted a workshop based on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) on 4/02/2017, Saturday. It was inaugurated by Prof. A. Manickavasakam, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He emphasised the importance of the workshop to the participants. The session was handled by Mr Naresh of Axis Global Institute of Industrial Training. In the forenoon session he gave a general idea on PLC and its applications. Afternoon session was about PLC programing and PLC software.

National Level Training Programme in Solar Energy on 4th and 5th March 2016

Ahalia Alternate Energy Pvt. Ltd. (AAEPL) is an establishment of renewable energy development and consultancy. It belongs to Ahalia Health, Heritage & Knowledge Village (AHHKV) at Palakkad, in the state of Kerala, India. AHHKV is an integrated campus of a group of specialty hospitals, Ahalia Heritage Centre, an Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturing Unit (AMMU) and another group of institutions of higher education. The vast and beautiful campus is spread over 1500 acres of land that offers a perfect blend of nature and technology. AAEPL has a mandate to develop all the energy requirements of the campus from natural and renewable resources like wind, solar and biomass – all these three are abundantly available in the campus. Installation of 8.4 MW of grid connected wind turbine generators is currently going on in the campus.

Report on Special Lecture on Research methodology & Particle Swarm Optimization

The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized special lecture on the topics Research Methodology and Particle Swarm Optimization on 8th December 2015. The session on Research Methodology was handled by Prof, Saleena Mary George, AP/EEE. The relevance of research, literature review and identification of problem, writing of research paper and sponsoring agencies were the major topics covered. Being a compulsory paper for the coursework of research the research methodology has its significance. About 90 percent of research work involves in identification of the research problem. Literature review plays an important role in identification of research problem. In writing a research paper the researcher should include their own interpretations rather than coping the contents of other authors to avoid plagiarism. Finally different government and nongovernment sponsoring agencies for the research and development projects were also discussed.

Two Days Workshop and Hands on Training on Soft Computing Techniques Using MATLAB 16th & 17th December 2015

Soft computing is the use of inexact solutions to computationally hard tasks such as the solution of NP-complete problems, for which there is no known algorithm that can compute an exact solution in polynomial time. The integration of soft computing techniques with innovative ideas leads to new developments in the application of all engineering sciences. It finds a wide scope in the field of research and development. The soft computing techniques include various methodologies like fuzzy logic, neural networks, optimization tools as genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization etc. This workshop aims in providing a basic knowledge of these computing techniques and provides hands on training on soft computing methods using in MATLAB toolboxes. This is organized by Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology.

Two days Faculty development Programme on MATLAB Training 18th & 19th Nov 2015

Ahaila school of Engineering and Technology Organized Two days Faculty development Programme on MATLAB Training on 18th &19th Nov 2015 for ECE and EEE faculty members. The session proceeded with Mr. Chandrashekar, Application Engineer Coreel Technologies Bangalore. In his first day of training was about the fundamentals of MATLAB & SIMULINK. During the technical Session, he gave hands on training on the following topics Signal & Image Processing, Communication Systems, Control Systems, Neural networks , Fuzzy Systems, Script based programming techniques using MATLAB and code generator. The FDP was very useful for project guidance and as well as career development. Dr.V.Balamurugan proposed the vote of thanks.

Meenvallam - Industrial Visit

Meenvallam waterfalls is a magnificent five step waterfall near Karimba town in Palakkad district, at a distance of 30kms from Palakkad and Coimbatore. Originating from the Thuppanadu River a part of Western Ghats, these falls drop step by step from a height of 5ms to 45ms or 20 feet to 25 feet. Only two of the five step of falls are accessible. It is a suitable site for hydroelectric project.


Mysore airport, also known as mandakalli airport is an airport serving the city of Mysore.Defunct from the mid 1980s ,it was modernized and reopened to scheduled services on first October 2010.Since then, 3 airlines kingfisher airlines,spicejet and alliance air has served the airport without success. As of the late 2015 the airport is without scheduled service.

       The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology, Palakkad was established right from the inception of the college, since July 2012. The department offers B.Tech Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to University of Calicut and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University, Trivandrum. Electrical Engineering forms the application of the laws of Physics governing electricity, magnetism, and light to develop new technologies in helping mankind. The Electrical Engineering discipline has its esoteric side, with electrical engineers being involved in the generation, protection, transmission, distribution and application of electrical energy. However, on the mundane side, they are also involved in that aspect that lights our world. Many scientific fields depend on electrical engineers for their design, analysis and maintenance. Engineers who specialize in Electrical and Electronics engineering are concerned with the design and analysis of controllers, power converters that eventually help in obtaining the desired characteristics of electromechanical systems. Today, Electrical engineering has a wide reach in all spheres of technology.


To produce Electrical graduates with capabilities of Academic, Technical and Professional competences. Also, to nurture Engineers in emerging fields of researches and aspiring entrepreneurs to build a better world for future. .


The goal of the department is to create engineers of high technical skills in the Electrical & Electronics Engineering field suitable for being budding entrepreneurs along with the quality to be employed in reputed firms and for pursuing higher studies along with R&D to improve the quality of present power scenario as well as the society. The department caters to the ever increasing needs of technical brilliance in all areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering such as integrated Electronics and Circuits, Electrical Machines, Control & Automation, Power Systems & Power Electronics. A comprehensive syllabus is being followed to cater to the needs of industry and academia, with more emphasis on practical applications and training.

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is Indias leading recognised professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT. Founded in 1953, it serves more than 60,000 members through various centres, whose number is 65, spread all over India and abroad. The Institution provides leadership in Scientific and Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. Government of India has recognised IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence. The objectives of IETE focus on advancing electro-technology. The IETE conducts and sponsors technical meetings, conferences, symposia, and exhibitions all over India, publishes technical journals and provides continuing education as well as career advancement opportunities to its members.

        The department of Electrical and Electronics engineering has a wide range of specialized laboratories with latest equipment for teaching and research. Laboratories provide an environment for students to apply their understanding of the fundamental concepts

Electrical Machines Lab

The Electrical Machine Laboratory includes experiments on characteristics and behavior of the DC and AC Machines, efficiency test on transformers, synchronous and asynchronous machines and give them experimental skill, familiarize with the constructional details of different types, working principle and their performance. This lab consists of machines such as DC machine, induction motor, induction generator, alternators, synchronous motors etc. Well established with all kinds of motors, generators and latest drives, this is the core lab for the Electrical Engineering branch and the ancillary for ECE and Mechanical branches

Measurements and Instrumentation Lab

This laboratory is used to impart practical knowledge to the students about the different wiring schemes, familiarization of megger ,MCB and ELCB. This workshop is established with the basic tools, trainer kits and accessories. The workshop is very imperative not only for the students of Electrical Engineering branch but also for the students of other engineering branches and provides service to all 1st year students.

Advanced Electrical Engineering Lab

The aim of the laboratory is to provide sound knowledge in the basic concepts of linear control theory and design of control system, to understand the methods of representation of systems and getting their transfer function models, to provide adequate knowledge in the time response of systems and steady state error analysis, to give basic knowledge in obtaining the open loop and closed loop frequency responses of systems and to understand the concept of stability of control system and methods of stability analysis. It help students to study the compensation design for a control system.The design and implementation of control theory is done using MATLAB software to work out the experiments for open loop and closed loop systems. The lab is well furnished with MATLAB & PSPICE softwares, AC & DC servomotors, synchros, LVDT etc. to conduct various experiments for the EEE students.

Power Electronics Lab

The objective of the Power Electronics laboratory is to study the characteristics of switching devices and its applications in rectifier, inverter and choppers. It also acquaint with the application of electronic devices for conversion, control & conditioning of electric power. Further it aids the students to acquire an overview of different types of power semi-conductor devices and to cognize the operation, characteristics and performance parameters of controlled rectifiers, to study the operation, switching techniques, modulation techniques of PWM inverters and to comprehend the harmonic reduction techniques.

Simulation Lab

This laboratory uses various developed softwares like MATLAB version 15a pspice which enables the students to carry out experiments in the fields of electric circuits, power electronics, power systems and control system.

Project Presentation

One of our final year students project was selected in the first round of project competition by National Instruments. The project titiled MEGOBOTwhich is a GSM controlled robotic system for monitoring health parameters like temperature,blood pressure and heart beat.

Inauguration of EEE Association -ILLUMINATI


      The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, inaugurated IILUMINATI - Association of Electrical and Electronics on Tuesday, 11th August 2015. Shri. Shakthi Prasad, IV Year EEE welcomed the gathering. Shri. K. O. Dev Assy, Assistant Engineer, 110kV substation, Kozhinjampara, was the chief guest. He inaugurated the Association and delivered the inaugural address, in which he insisted students to have more practical knowledge. Also he advised them to do more projects during their course of study. The function was presided by Dr. P. Sankarankutty, Director, ASET. Dr. Krishna Kumar Kishor, Assistant Director - Academics, AHHKV and Dr. Jino John, HOD/Civil Engineering, felicitated the function. Finally, Shir Parvathi Gopinath, III Year EEE proposed the vote of thanks.


The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, organized a Two Day Workshop on LabView, on Friday and Saturday 11th and 12th September 2015. Dr. G. Murugananth, Prof. & Head, Dept. of EEE, ASET, welcomed the gathering and handled the introductory session on virtual instruments and its characteristics. Prof. P. Manoj Kumar, Dept. of EEE, and Prof. M. Bharathi Raja, Dept. of Mechatronics Engineering, KSR College of Technology, Tiruchengode, handled the training sessions. The sessions include the fundamentals of LabVIEW, Programming techniques and hands on training sessions on interfacing with the sensors and electrical drives. More than 40 students of the departments of EEE and ECE attended the program. Prof. Manickavasagam, Dept. of EEE, ASET, proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Mithun and Prof. Nithin, Dept. of EEE, ASET, coordinated the programme.

Afternoon Session

In the afternoon session a technical exhibition was held. Various technical games were conducted in which all the students took active participation. The day finally came to an end by promising more such programs from the Association. .

Solar dryer for sustainable agricultural food products

The design,construction and fabrication of the solar dryer for sustainable agricultural food products was successfully completed under Hykon an ISO 9001 company.
