The Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Palakkad, organized the SPARC GIANT (Indo-German) One-Day Workshop on “Additive Manufactured Bio-Implants: Approaches, Trends & Challenges” on 20 November 2025 at the Sahyadri Campus. The event was funded by SPARC and conducted in coordination with CCE, IIT Palakkad . The event was organized by Dr. Afzal Ahmed, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Palakkad
The workshop began at 9:00 AM with the inaugural address by Prof. A. Seshadri Sekhar, Director, IIT Palakkad, who formally inaugurated the event. His address highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the growing impact of additive manufacturing technologies in medical applications The event featured three eminent experts:

Dr. Mahesh Kappanayil, Professor of Paediatric Cardiology, Amrita Hospital, Kochi
Mr. Vijay Kittathel, Director, Jayon Implants Pvt. Ltd. & Adler Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.
Dr. Bhavin K. Bharath, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Dr. John Alexis, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology, attended the workshop. participated in the workshop. Their involvement helped strengthen academic engagement and foster future collaborative potential between institutions and industry partners.
The sessions offered deep insights into the latest advancements in additive manufacturing, particularly in the area of bio-implants. With contributions from experts spanning medicine, engineering, and academia, participants were exposed to a rich blend of perspectives and discussions on current trends, challenges, and future opportunities in the field. The event also provided an excellent platform for participants to build connections with professionals across various domains. The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony and a vote of thanks, officially ending at 6:30 PM.
