Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology celebrated World Environment Day in a grand manner in association with the O. V. Vijayan Smarakam, Thasrak, operated by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala. The event was inaugurated by Malampuzha MLA, A. Prabhakaran by offering a floral tribute to the statue of renowned cultural icon O. V. Vijayan.
Advocate C. P. Pramod, Treasurer of the O. V. Vijayan Memorial, presided over the function. Dr. P. R. Suresh, Principal of Ahalia Engineering College, welcomed the gathering. After planting saplings in the premises of the memorial, a poetry recitation competition for school students was conducted.
In the competition judged by Dr. P. Murali and Smt. Jyothibai Pariyadath, the first prize of ₹2000 and a certificate of appreciation was awarded to Sijesh K. G. of Kuzhalmannam C.A.H.S.S. School, and the second prize of ₹1000 and a certificate of appreciation was won by Smrithi B. of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Pallavur.
Certificates were distributed to all participating students. Faculty members of Ahalia Engineering College, NSS volunteers, and office bearers of the O. V. Vijayan Memorial actively took part in the event.
