1. Introduction
The NFE Student Chapter of Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology (ASET), Palakkad, organized an industrial training program for Electrical & Electronics Engineering students on 19 August 2025. The program was held at M/s Metal Industries Ltd., Shoranur, a Government of Kerala undertaking, as part of their ongoing Tourism Project
The training was conducted in line with the Central Electricity Authority (Measures Relating to Safety and Electrical Supply) Regulations, 2023, with special focus on inspection procedures under Regulation 32 and 45 for installations of voltage up to and including 250V.
2. Objectives of the Training Program
- To provide students with practical exposure to the latest safety measures in electrical installations.
- To familiarize students with CEA Regulations 2023, including inspection procedures and compliance measures.
- To enhance students’ technical competency through plant visits and hands-on learning.
- To strengthen industry–academia interaction by engaging with experts from the power sector.
3. Participants
A total of 39 students from the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, ASET attended the program:
- 20 students from Semester V (S5)
- 19 students from Semester VII (S7)
The student team was accompanied by Mr. Vipindas K, Assistant Professor, Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department, ASET. The training program was led by Mr. Rajan Menon, President, NFE Kerala Chapter.
4. Training Details
The program covered practical aspects of inspection and testing of low-voltage installations up to 250V, in accordance with CEA regulations. The following regulations were demonstrated and tested during the session:
- Regulation 14 to 19 – General safety requirements for electrical installations.
- Regulation 36 & 37 – Inspection and testing procedures for electrical works.
- Regulation 43 & 44 – Safety measures in low-voltage electrical installations.
- Regulation 76 – Provisions relating to periodic inspection and certification.
The participants also underwent a plant visit to gain insights into industrial operations and practical applications of electrical safety measures.
5. Key Highlights
- Hands-on training under Regulation 32 & 45 for installations up to 250V.
- Demonstration of inspection methodologies as per CEA (Safety and Supply) Regulations 2023.
- Industrial exposure through a guided plant visit.
- Interactive sessions with senior engineers of M/s Metal Industries Ltd.
- Certificates of training were formally issued by the Managing Director of M/s Steel Industries Ltd. to all participants.
6. Outcomes
- Students gained practical understanding of statutory requirements in electrical inspection.
- Enhanced awareness on electrical safety, compliance, and regulatory procedures.
- Strengthened professional networking with industry experts and regulatory bodies.
- Recognition of student participation through certificates, enhancing their professional credentials.
7. Conclusion
The NFE Student Chapter training program held on 19 August 2025 was a resounding success. It provided the students of Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology with invaluable exposure to CEA safety regulations, inspection practices, and industrial operations. The event significantly contributed to bridging the gap between theory and practice, aligning with the vision of producing industry-ready engineers.
The collaboration between ASET, NFE Kerala Chapter, and M/s Metal Industries Ltd. set a benchmark for future training programs, ensuring students are equipped with the latest technical and regulatory knowledge in the electrical domain.
