Comprehensive Training on EV Charging Station Installation and Testing: Bridging Theory with Practice

On January 27, 2025, the NFE Student Chapter Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology hosted a specialized one-day training program dedicated to the Installation and Testing of Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations. The event was strategically conducted at three prominent locations:

  1. Hotel Rose Bowl, Walayar
  2. Travlonge, Walayar
  3. Near Hotel Surya City, Kandath Complex, Palakkad

Leadership and Objectives

The training was led by Sri. Rajan Menon, NFE State President, with the aim of equipping students with essential knowledge and skills related to the operational and regulatory aspects of EV charging stations.

Training Content

Participants engaged in an in-depth exploration of both regulatory frameworks and technical specifications critical for establishing EV charging stations. Expert resource persons included Mr. Venugopal, President of the Safety Council Palakkad, and  Mr.Saravanan from Sonel Instruments India Ltd., Chennai. Key safety tests conducted during the training included:

  • Earth Pit Resistance Measurement: Evaluating grounding system effectiveness.
  • Continuity of Protective Conductors: Ensuring electrical continuity and safety.
  • Insulation Resistance Testing: Assessing insulation quality to prevent short circuits.
  • Electric Shock Protection Effectiveness: Analyzing safety mechanisms against electrical faults.
  • Residual Current Protective Devices (RCDs) Operation: Verifying functionality of safety devices.
  • Power Quality Analysis: Assessing stability and quality of power supply.

Hands-On Experience

Students were provided with practical experience using various testing instruments and adhering to industry standards essential for EV charging station installations. They were also tasked with creating single-line diagrams and detailed reports on the testing processes they observed.

Conclusion

The program concluded with a final testing session at the Hotel Surya City site, offering participants invaluable hands-on experience.
