Hands On Training Cisco Packet Tracer

Hands On Training Cisco Packet Tracer

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an insightful Hands on training CISCO Packet Tracer on 7-03-2025. The session, conducted by Mr.Vaishanav R Technical Assistant Department of Computer science and Engineering ,was coordinated by Assistant professor Ms. Kavitha S. The program commenced with a morning prayer, followed by a welcome speech delivered by Kavitha S.  Department of Computer science and Engineering, The session was formally inaugurated our HOD Dr.S.Gunashekarn. Department of computer science and Engineering.

  • Practical Learning:
    • Students highly value the hands-on experience Packet Tracer provides. It allows them to practice network configurations and troubleshooting in a safe, virtual environment, reinforcing theoretical knowledge.
    • Many students express that Packet Tracer significantly boosts their confidence in working with real-world networking equipment.
  • Accessibility and Ease of Use:
    • The software’s user-friendly interface is praised, particularly by beginners. Students find it relatively easy to learn and navigate.
    • The fact that Packet Tracer is often available for free through Cisco Networking Academy is a significant advantage, making it accessible to a wide range of learners.
  • Effective for CCNA Preparation:
    • Packet Tracer is widely recognized as an essential tool for preparing for Cisco CCNA certification exams. Students find it invaluable for practicing the skills required for the exams.
  • Visualization of Network Concepts:
    • The software’s ability to visualize network traffic and behavior helps students understand complex networking concepts more easily.
    • Students find that seeing how data flows through a network enhances their understanding.
  • Troubleshooting Skill Development:
    • Many students express that the ability to simulate network failures and practice troubleshooting in Packet Tracer greatly improves their problem-solving skills.

Areas of Consideration:

Simulation Limitations:

  • While Packet Tracer is a powerful tool, it is a simulation and doesn’t replicate every aspect of real-world networking equipment. Some advanced features and configurations may not be fully supported.
  • Therefore, students that move into very advanced networking, will eventually need to use real world equipment, or higher end simulation software.
  • Need for Structured Learning:
    • While Packet Tracer is user-friendly, students benefit most from structured training programs that provide clear guidance and objectives.
    • Simply having the software does not equate to learning. Students still need good instruction.

In summary, Cisco Packet Tracer is highly regarded by students as an effective and valuable tool for learning networking concepts and developing practical skills.
