The ASTHRA UI/UX Competition – “Design the Experience” was conducted successfully on 8th September 2026 by the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning under ASTHRA – the Department Association, of Ahalia School of Engineering & Technology, Palakkad. The
competition was organized for S1 & S3 AIML students with the objective of encouraging creativity, user interface design, problem-solving, & the practical application of AI-assisted development tools.
The competition was conducted from 1:10 PM to 4:20 PM in the AIML Lab. A total of 32 students participated in the event, forming 16 teams of two members each. Among the participating teams, 7 teams were from S1 AIML, comprising 14 students, while 9 teams were from S3 AIML,
comprising 18 students. The problem statement was revealed at the beginning of the competition. Participants were required to design and develop the front end & user interface for the ASTHRA department association website. The competition focused specifically on the frontend, as the backend infrastructure had already been developed by the student coordinator Mr. Sankar Krishna P. The selected frontend would subsequently be integrated with the existing backend by the student coordinators. The competition required participants to develop an actual working website rather than merely producing static design mock-ups. The required website included sections such as the home page, activities, activity details, newsletters, newsletter details, & committee members. Participants were given approximately two hours for the development of their projects & were permitted to make use of various AI-assisted development & design tools of their choice. The competition provided students with an opportunity to explore modern AI-based development workflows while applying principles of UI/UX design, creativity, usability & responsive web development. The competition guidelines also required the submitted website to function properly in a browser & maintain
a suitable appearance on both laptop & mobile screens.
The entire competition was coordinated & managed by the student coordinators, Mr. Sankar Krishna P & Mr. Vithul M, with the support of the faculty coordinator, Mrs. Reshma P K, and under the guidance of the convenor, Mr. Sunder V, HoD – AIML. Two student volunteers from S5 AIML, Ms. Hiba Fathima M & Ms. Aksharaa D, assisted in maintaining the smooth conduct of the competition. Mr. Deepak Mathew, Lab Staff, was also present throughout the event to provide the necessary technical support. The coordinators, volunteers & lab staff remained available throughout the competition to assist the participating teams and ensure proper conduct of the event. Upon completion, the teams submitted their projects through Google Drive. The student coordinators initially examined all submitted projects & removed incomplete or invalid submissions.
The eligible projects were then shortlisted & forwarded to the official judging panel for detailed evaluation. Due to certain difficulties, the planned presentation of the projects was not conducted. Instead, participants were instructed to provide the required project details through an additional text file, as specified in the competition rulebook. The rulebook required the submission to include details of the team, tools used, and relevant descriptions of the project. The shortlisted projects were evaluated by the official judging panel comprising Mr. Krishnan
N M, AP – CSE, ASET, & Mrs. Happy A, AP – CSE, ASET. The evaluation focused on the quality of the user interface and user experience, functionality, creativity and innovation, and fulfilment of the specified competition requirements.
The first position was secured by Ms. Hansika M S & Ms. Aswani R, both students of S1 AIML. They were recognized for their outstanding creativity, design skills, innovation, & successful implementation of the competition requirements. The achievement certificates issued to both students identify them as the First Position holders in the ASTHRA UI/UX Competition – “Design the Experience,” conducted on 8th September 2026. Certificates were arranged to recognize the participation and achievements of the students. E certificates were provided to all participating students, while hardcopy certificates were awarded to the students securing the first position. The first-position team was also awarded a cash prize. The distribution of the certificates and prize is scheduled to take place during the ASTHRA Association Day on 15th September 2026. Overall, the ASTHRA UI/UX Competition provided students with a practical platform to apply UI/UX principles and develop a functional web interface within a limited timeframe. The event encouraged students to explore AI-assisted development tools, work collaboratively, think creatively, and develop solutions based on a real-world departmental requirement. The successful conduct of the competition was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the student coordinators, volunteers, faculty coordinator, lab staff, and judging panel. The event also contributed to strengthening students’ practical skills in frontend development, design thinking, usability, and emerging AI-assisted development practices.
