On 27th July 2024, 41 students of final year (2021 – 2025) Electronics and Communication Engineering Department along with Mrs. Asha Arvind, AP, ECE Department and Mrs. Sindhu V.R, Senior instructor, ECE Department of Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology visited the ITI Ltd. (Indian Telephone Industries) Kanjikode, Palakkad. ITI Ltd. Palakkad is one among the five manufacturing plants of ITI Ltd. Established in 1976, primarily for catering to the manufacture of Electronic Switching Products and Services.
The unit has executed the National Population Register (NPR – for Home Ministry, Govt. of India), and Socio Economic & Caste Census (SECC – for Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India) projects. The Plant has a Multi-layer PCB Manufacturing Plant (up to 10 layers) as a separate business center that caters to the captive as well as external market requirements.
We reached the industry at 1:30 pm, the person in-charge gave us a brief introduction on SMT works that’s been going on and explained how the manufacturing process of PCB units is carried out. They even showed the working of the equipment under process. It was a great experience for students.
The coordinator then walked the students through the recently launched 4G laboratories to productionize the 4G upgradeable to 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) and related equipment in line with the Government’s initiative of ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’. ITI Limited and CDoT will collaborate to create ‘Make in India’ stack as part of the MoU signed for the upcoming 4G & 5G opportunities in India.
Then students were guided through the ISRO testing laboratories and ISRO works going on. Though the entry for the lab was restricted, students had a great experience and gathered much information regarding the space activities.
ITI Ltd. even contributed the manufacturing of electronic assembly for ISRO’s GSLV MkIII, one of the prestigious missions of ISRO launched on 5th June 2017 to take a giant leap for India as a global space power.
The unit has also set up an exclusive ‘Electronic Component Screening Lab’ as well as testing facilities for Avionics & Radio Frequency ( RF ) packages to meet the demand of Space and Defence segments and handle additional requirements. Palakkad Plant of ITI Limited has been associated with ISRO for more than two decades in all its prestigious missions striving to help power India’s space aspirations.
Then students were guided to the UIDAI information/data storing vaults and many other electronic works that have been going on such as SD card duplications and PC testing units. This Industrial Visit to ITI Ltd. was a great source of information for students on electronic equipment manufacturing and its related works. The Visit was successful with the support and guidance of our Principal Dr. P R Suresh, Vice principal Dr.Krishna Kumar Kishor and Head of the department Dr. V. Balamurugan. The visit Coordinated with IEEE Student branch of Ahalia School of Engineering and technology.
